Heat and Heat Index Policy

Jeffersontown Youth Baseball and Softball, JAYBAS, has adopted the Kentucky High Scholl Athletic Association, KHSAA, rules and regulations regarding heat and heat index. All JAYBAS coaches are required to adhere to KHSAA/ KMA heat index requirements as outlined on the KHSAA website at www.khsaa.org/sportsmedicine/heat/. Coaches must be cognizant of all issues relating to the safety of their student-athletes at all times.

The rules are outlined here:

Under 95 degree Heat Index:

  • All sports
  • Provide ample amounts of water. This means that water should always be available and athletes should be able to take in as much water as they desire.
  • Optional water breaks every 30 minutes for 10 minutes in duration
  • Ice-down towels for cooling
  • Watch/monitor athletes carefully for necessary action.

 

95 degrees to 99 degrees Heat Index:

  • All sports
  • Provide ample amounts of water. This means that water should always be available and athletes should be able to
  • take in as much water as they desire.
  • Mandatory water breaks every 30 minutes for 10 minutes in duration
  • Ice-down towels for cooling
  • Watch/monitor athletes carefully for necessary action.
  • Contact sports and activities with additional equipment
  • Helmets and other possible equipment removed if not involved in contact.
  • Reduce time of outside activity. Consider postponing practice to later in the day.
  • Re-check temperature and humidity every 30 minutes to monitor for increased Heat Index.

 

100 degress to 104 degrees Heat Index

  • All sports
  • Provide ample amounts of water. This means that water should always be available and athletes should be able to take in as much water as they desire.
  • Mandatory water breaks every 30 minutes for 10 minutes in duration
  • Ice-down towels for cooling
  • Watch/monitor athletes carefully for necessary action.
  • Alter uniform by removing items if possible
  • Allow for changes to dry t-shirts and shorts.
  • Reduce time of outside activity as well as indoor activity if air conditioning is unavailable.
  • Postpone practice to later in day.
  • Contact sports and activities with additional equipment
  • Helmets and other possible equipment removed if not involved in contact or necessary for safety. If necessary for safety, suspend activity.
  • Re-check temperature and humidity every 30 minutes to monitor for increased Heat Index.

 

Above 104 degrees Heat Index

  • All Sports
  • Stop all outside activity in practice and/or play, and stop all inside activity if air conditioning is unavailable.

Family Plan:
Oldest Child pays full price. Each additional child receives a $25 discount.

Parents needed financial assistance should contact Larry Head, League President at 502-416-5615.

Each family will be required to pay a $30 convenience fee to be deposited along with the registration fee.  Money collected will be used to staff the concession stand at a rate of $8/hour per individual (16+ years).  It is our desire to staff the concession stand properly and eliminate the need to recruit, train and retrain workers.  If you are seeking part time, seasonal work please contact Gil Rice at 502-416-8732.


7u, 8u, 9u baseball
will be recreational ball only with a draft for 7u and those individuals not returning with a recreational spring ball team.


10u, 11u, 12u, 13-15u and 18u baseball
players may sign up as individuals for recreational ball or as a team for a competitive league...(18u will only be on a team basis)

10,11,12 competitive team games to be played on Sunday’s, 1 or 2 games per week, for a total of  8 – 10 games for the season

12U Elite making noise on Regional stage
On May 7th, 8th and 9th - the 12U Jeffersontown Elite Boys Baseball Team traveled to Columbus, IN for the Indiana Blazers Invitational Tournament.  The Tournament was full of top notch teams from all over the Ohio Valley and Midwest.  The following teams participated in the event: Jeffersontown Elite, Edgewood (Indianapolis) Bulldogs, E-Town Shock, Edgewood (Indianapolis) Rebels, Cincinnati Stix, Indiana Blazers, Louisville Longhorns, Indiana Prospects, Red Front (Ohio) Rebels, Smithville Stompers, Ohio Elite & Michigan Arsenal.
